Osborne Macharia is a Kenyan artist known for his brand of Afrofuturism photography. This form of Africa art shows his unique flair for creating fantastical storylines which examine Kenya’s past and current situations. This piece, from the Black Sudan series, examines the spirit of the wandering African man, a tribute to the departed souls of the people of Sudan. It shows a man wandering through barren landscapes, a haunting scene which addresses the ideas of black identity and displacement in Africa itself. Macharia uses his signature digital art skills to create an imaginary situation that brings forth a difficult topic, the Second Sudanese Civil War.
