African Art by Osborne Macharia

Osborne Macharia is a Kenyan photographer, whose creative works have become increasingly popular due to their unique take on African culture. The Kipiriri collection is an African art tribute to the real female freedom fighters of Kenya, the women who helped fight for independence in 1963 during the Mau Mau movement. Here he shows a portrait of one of these freedom fighters with a hugely elaborate hairstyle, focusing on the femininity of these particular subjects. He is known for blending elements of history, science fiction and digital editing to create fantastical examinations of Kenya’s history and society.
